Ten years after
its inception,
CEDARE continues its pioneer march, with
renewed vigor and determination, and… a new
outlook for the future. The phrase “Environment
for Development” aptly summarizes our new
vision. It is a vision that truly blends the
global changes occurring in the development
arena, together with the internationally
recognized priorities for action identified
through the MDG’s, as well as other emerging
issues such as trade and environment,
bio-safety, intellectual property rights, peace
and the environment, and eco-safety.
It is our firm belief that addressing
environmental problems contributes to
eliminating many obstacles related to
development. Through our new vision, we shall
exert every effort to spread, enhance, and
promote the modern concept of ‘Environment for
Development’. This concept stresses the fact
that addressing environmental issues, though
highly important from the moral and ethical
point of view, also has a positive impact on the
health and quality of life of man, which in
itself is the ultimate goal of development.
Environment for Development
places the environment- first and
foremost- as a development issue. It
recognizes the fact that the
conservation and management of
natural resources is one of the most
important pillars for investment and
economic development. Adoption of
the notion of “Environment for
Development” constitutes a
cornerstone for the progress of any
nation that is keen on defying
conventional and obsolete molds, and
replacing them with the adoption of
a modern, rational, and informed
approach. There remains no doubt:
the environment has become a global
criterion for evaluating the
development of a country on the
economic, human, and developmental
levels.
