Environment Outlook (GEO-4) Third Production and Authors'
Meeting

Venue: Cairo - Egypt
The objectives of the meeting were to examine
different aspects of the GEO reporting process, and try to
elicit answers/feedback on questions and subjects such as: the
overall GEO assessment framework; how the GEO process can help
to bridge the gap between science and policy; how GEO reports
are being used to date; how participants would like to be using
them in future; how to best present findings and messages for
policy action; the overall outline and structure for GEO-4; what
the major environmental and cross-cutting issues and themes are
that GEO-4 should cover. |

The main aim of the initiative is
to reduce the level of pollution of the Mediterranean region by
identifying and tackling the most significant pollution sources
by the year 2020. The de-pollution initiative will operate
within existing political processes and institutions. It will
support and enhance previously agreed actions and give new
impetus to efforts to reduce pollution of the Mediterranean
region. |

Environment Information Network (AEIN) Pilot Phase Review &
Phase 2 Start-up Meeting

The pilot phase of AEIN (phase 1),
which has recently been completed, focused on developing and
testing of common tools and guidelines aimed at capacity
building on integrated environmental assessment and reporting in
12 African countries. These tools will be used in the
implementation of the second phase of AEIN. |

Training will be conducted on the
National level to test the training manual. The main objective
of the training manual is to give strategic step-by-step
guidelines on the GEO Integrated Environmental Assessment IEA
and environmental reporting methodology and approach.

Nodes Formation Workshop - (IUCN WESCANA Regional DGCS Water
Project)

Main objectives are:

Bring together the Nodes;
discuss their needs, their potential contribution to the
project for the purpose of its formation finalization.

Present the project’s
progress and discuss further the Second Detailed
Operational Plan including the Systemic Approach,
Decision Support System (DSS), the pilot projects, the
legal and policy briefs and others.

Meeting of the EUROMED Environment Ministers' Meeting
|

Venue: Brussels - Belgium
The meeting is devoted to the
preparation of the Euro-Med Environment Minister's conference
foreseen to take place in Cairo on 20 November 2006. The focus
of the meeting will be the drafting of a declaration by Euro-Med
Environment Ministers concerning environmental cooperation in
the Mediterranean including adoption of a timetable of actions
for the Horizon 2020 initiative. |

Training-of-trainers course on "The application of
sustainability indicators in costal areas: A landscape ecology
approach to environmental management
|
Date: 18-22 September, 2006
Venue: Alberese - Italy
As part of the
schedule of training activities of the Coastal Zone Management (CZM)
programme of the Area of Earth, Environmental and Marine
Sciences and Technologies, ICS-UNIDO is organizing in
cooperation with the Ente Parco Regionale della Maremma in
Tuscany, a Training-of-trainers course. This initiative aims to
reinforce and support the collaboration between specialists and
institutions, within the Mediterranean Basin, interested in
strategic action plans concerning sustainable industrial
development in coastal regions, and in providing expertise in
assessing landscape change, through appropriate technology, for
decision making.
