The Center for
Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe
(CEDARE) was established in 1992 as an international
inter-governmental Organization with diplomatic status .
This was in response to the convention adopted by the Council of
Arab Ministers Responsible For the Environment (CAMRE) , in
1991 and upon the initiative of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Arab fund
for Economic and Social Development (AFESD). |

CEDARE E-learning Courses For Environment and Development - 1
June 2009
|
CEDARE in cooperation with UNEP/ROWA is
organizing an E-learning course in the field of E-waste
Management in English language. The objective of the course is
to enhance capacities of professionals dealing with E-waste
especially in the fields of setting policies, laws and
regulations, and the methods of collecting, classifying and
recycling of these wastes on the national, regional and
international levels.
CEDARE is also providing other courses in Integrated Coastal
Zone Management (ICZM), Sustainable Coastal Tourism,
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Integrated Water
Resources Management (IWRM).

MEDSTAT II: rising crops in Mediterranean Partner Countries

MEDSTAT II has just released its latest Statistics in Focus
publication, on crop production in the Mediterranean Partner
Countries.
The main crops in the Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPCs)
detailed in this publication include cereals, rice, fresh
vegetables, fresh fruit, grapes, olives and dates. Of these,
the leading crops are vegetables, which account for nearly
40% of total production, followed by cereals, and fresh
fruit. The publication notes a steady increase in production
for most of crops in the period 2000-2006, due mainly to
increased yield, as the area devoted to agriculture remained
stable.

Earth Hour - 28 March 2009
|
In 2009, Earth
Hour has the goal of motivating one billion people around the
world to switch off their lights for one hour from 8.30-9.30pm
on Saturday 28 March.
Now in its third year, Earth Hour’s goal is to send a powerful
global message that it is possible to take action on climate
change. In 2009 this event is supported by the United Nations.

Green Star Awards - 7 May 2009, Brussels -Belgium
|
Conducted under
the auspices of the international Advisory Group on
Environmental Emergencies (AGEE) the Green Star Awards are
jointly managed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian
Affairs and Green Cross International. The inaugural awards
ceremony takes place in May 2009.

World Environment Day 2009 - Mexico, 5 June 2009
|
The theme for
WED 2009 is ''Your Planet Needs You - UNite to Combat Climate
Change''. It reflects the urgency for nations to agree on a new
deal at the crucial climate convention meeting in Copenhagen
some 180 days later in the year and the links with overcoming
poverty and improved management of forests.

MEDCOAST 2009 10-14 November 2009, Sochi , Russia
|
Since the first
conference organized in Antalya, Turkey during 2-5 November
1993, eight events in the “Mediterranean Coastal Environment”
conference series of MEDCOAST have established this series as a
major international scientific and environmental meeting
focusing on the management of the coastal and sea areas in
general with particular emphasis to the Mediterranean and the
Black Sea.
